FRESCO4NoPain Online Event 1

Hosted by the Technical University of Munich (TUM), in March 2026.

Advancing Open Science in pain research

The FRESCO4NoPain Online Training Event brought together doctoral candidates, supervisors, and researchers from across the network for two days dedicated to Open Science practices in  pain research. The event focused on strengthening transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration across the consortium.

Insightful lectures and hands-on learning

The training delivered a comprehensive overview of core Open Science concepts and practical tools that support robust and reproducible research.

Through a series of focused lectures, participants explored topics including robustness and replicability, preregistration, open repositories, and transparent data management. Sessions also introduced practical tools such as OSF and GitHub, demonstrating how these platforms can support collaborative and reproducible workflows.

Another highlight of the event was an interactive Bayesian statistics workshop, where participants gained hands-on experience applying Bayesian approaches to scientific research and data interpretation.

Together, the sessions provided participants with both conceptual understanding and practical skills to implement Open Science practices in their own work.

Open Science in practice

The event also featured interactive journal club sessions led by the doctoral candidates themselves. Participants presented and discussed topics including registered reports, replication studies, open data and code sharing, and Bayesian statistics.

A central component of the training focused on applying Open Science principles directly within the doctoral candidates’ individual research projects.

In breakout group discussions, participants presented their ongoing work, outlining project objectives, methodologies, and current progress while discussing strategies for integrating Open Science throughout the research lifecycle.

Topics included preregistration of study protocols, reproducible workflows, data sharing strategies, and transparent reporting practices. The sessions provided valuable opportunities for feedback, interdisciplinary discussion, and strengthening collaboration within the FRESCO4NoPain network.
